Monsta X, a South Korean boy group with six members Shownu, Minhyuk, Kihyun, Hyungwon, Jooheon, and I.M, has delivered another great album. Monsta X’s The Dreaming was released on December 10, 2021. Making it their ninth studio album and second all-English album. Their recent release showcases the versatility of the group as they play around with retro, pop, and synth pop genres.

“Monbebes”(fans of the group) were over the moon to hear the vocals on this album. Especially by the group’s rappers Jooheon and I.M. Although it’s not their first time showing off their singing abilities, this album really shows a new confidence in their ability to sing.

Currently my go-to songs from The Dreaming are “low Your Mind”, “You Problem”, “Whispers in the Dark”, and “About Last Night”.

“Blow Your Mind” is a catchy bop. I.M. starts the song off and the low husk of his voice pulls you in and makes you want to hear the rest. Hearing this new confidence in his singing makes me happy. His voice quickly became one of my favorites. Each member shines in the parts they are given. Their voices blend together but also stand out against each other in a great way. My only complaint about this song is that it’s too short.

“You Problem” is one of the two songs off the album to have a music video. I am happy to say that I was there for the premiere of the music video and I was smiling the entire time I watched it. The members look like full course meals in this video and I couldn’t get enough of it. The disco theme of the video is a fun uplifter and it perfectly fits the vibes of the song. Jooheon’s voice is one to look out for in this song. He has a raspy yet strong voice that I absolutely love.

“Whispers in the Dark” is a beautiful song with raw emotion. I immediately fell in love with this song when I first heard it. The song evokes a sense of vulnerability through the lyrics and the music itself. It is a must for a nighttime drive or an “in your feels” playlist.

“About Last Night”is another catchy song that I instantly loved when I first heard it. Each part that the members sing is perfect for their voices. Minhyuk and Hyungwon have such fun parts to sing in this song. They always get me moving to the beat. But, my absolute favorite part of the song is the line “all the blurry nights are when I feel alive.” The first time I listened to the song I could feel the build up of the chorus. And hearing Kihyun and Shownu hit those high notes effortlessly was amazing.

These songs may be my go-to’s right now but, the entire album is full of amazing songs. One thing that Monsta X doesn’t do is miss. And this album was another example of that. The Dreaming furthered my love and respect for Monsta X. I hope that Monbebes and anyone interested in Monsta X also enjoyed this album.
